In the last few years, the market has seen a growing demand for wider tinplate and increased plant productivity, as well as requests for improved tin plating quality (mainly for can makers) with more attention to plant’s environmental impact.
That is why Tenova has developed high performing plants (up to 350.000 t/y capacity with 600 m/min process speed), offering Soluble or Insoluble Anodes Technology with low sludge tin dissolution process.
Alternative to the conventional soluble anodes, Insoluble Anodes Technology offers several advantages:
• Higher productivity
• Improved strip quality (possibility to reach 0.2-0.4 g/m)
• More safety for line operators
• More flexible campaign
• Saving in labor costs
• Less tin and electrolyte consumption
• Reduced fumes inside building

Tenova has conducted extensive research & development in this area resulting in an innovative and patented technology consisting of a tin dissolution process based on oxidation of metallic tin granules by the tinning electrolyte flowing in a dissolution reactor.
In addition, Tenova has developed a new design of edge masks that guarantees easy inspection and access to the cell. This design, together with the electrolytic cell itself, allows a better flow-dynamic and distribution of the current.
