Environmental legislation and the need for energy reduction continue to be steelmakers’ major concerns. The use of FlexyTech burners in industrial reheating furnaces are achieving 25-45ppm NOx, well below current legislation limits, while still providing excellent temperature uniformity.

In 2006 the small-size burners (TLX) of the Tenova FlexyTech family of burners were for the first time used as part of the revamping of the austenitizing furnace in the seamless tube mill at TenarisDalmine (HT furnace). The main goals of the revamping were to markedly decrease NOx emissions at the furnace stack and increase productivity by up to 20 %. This article presents the results after one year of operation.
